Horse Feed

At Equusnola, we offer a small range of quality chaffed horse feed made from locally sourced ingredients. Our range includes pure oat hay chaff as well as a blend of oat hay and wheat straw, providing a natural source of fibre to complement your horse's daily forage and concentrate ration.

Our chaffed feed is ideal for mixing with concentrates to encourage slower eating, support healthy digestion, and increase chewing time. It's also a great option for older horses or those with dental challenges, making feed easier to consume while providing valuable roughage.

Although bedding is our primary focus, we're proud to offer these simple, quality forage products to support the everyday nutritional needs of your horse.

Why Fibre Matters:

Fibre is the cornerstone of your horse’s diet. Horses are natural fibre digesters, a horses digestive system is almost entirely devoted to the digestion and absorption of nutrients from fibre. That’s why our feed is perfectly suited for those looking to provide a fibre-rich diet to support your horse’s digestive health and overall well-being.

Feeding chaff is an excellent way to support your horse's diet. Not only does it provide essential forage (which should be the foundation of any horse’s diet), but it also encourages chewing. This is important because, unlike humans, horses only produce saliva while chewing. The act of chewing stimulates the production of saliva, which helps protect the upper stomach from acid and supports gastric health.

Soaking Your Horse's Chaff

At Equusnola, we highly recommend soaking chaff before feeding. Soaking helps increase your horse’s water intake, especially during warmer months, and reduces sugars and non-structural carbohydrates (NSC), making it a great option for horses with metabolic concerns. It also eliminates dust, making the chaff easier to chew and swallow—reducing the risk of choking or impaction colic.

Give your horse the best care with the right feeding choices.
